RELATED CLEANING CHEMICAL
TOXICOLOGY
.                   Chemicals that might be safe for use by others can
be health threatening for carpet cleaners who are working in a
cloud of their own "steam" or vapor all day.  You have seen this
on a cold winter day when you open the front door and the
technician who is working nearby is almost hidden in a cloud.
This can subject them to a maximum potential of chemical
toxicity and tissue damage through both skin absorption and
inhalation.  The toxic route of entry is often as dangerous both
ways with these chemicals.
.                 "You can't clean something with nothing", so your
chemical products must contain strong agents but strong
agents are not all equally safe to use.   The Internet has made it
easier to search and discover the safety of your favorite
chemical products so that you can make intelligent decisions
about using them.  The main problem you may have here is that
many MSDS and labels no longer list all of their ingredients.
Instead they may simply state that there are no hazardous
ingredients as defined by law.  There is a lot less law protecting
us from chemical hazards than people think there is.  Therefore
carpet cleaners working everyday in their cloud of vapor are
concerned about the effects of chemicals on human tissue long
before the chemicals might be recognized as so extreme a
hazard as to be declared unsafe by law.   Ask yourself this
question... Who are they intentionally hiding the ingredients from
if not from you?
.                  Many common products that you may use everyday
contain poisonous or carcinogenic ingredients such as NTA, butyl,
other solvents and chemicals.
Many of the chemicals hide under
creative names and are difficult to research.  Some of them are:

  • Butyl, a.k.a. Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether, “butyl”,
.                 “EB”, “2-Butoxyethanol”, “2-Butoxy” and over 20
.                   other names.  It's commonly used in many or most
.                   carpet cleaning products but it is not good for you to
.                    be breathing this everyday.  Skin absorbtion is also
.                   a dangerous route of entry with this poison.

  • NTA is a suspected cause of cancer or tumors (carcinogen
.                   or tumorigen) a.k.a. Trisodium Nitrilotriacetate,
.                 “NTA”, Glycine-(carboxymethyl)-Trisodium
.                  -Monohydrate and many other names.  It's commonly
.                   used as a phosphate substitute and for scale
.                   prevention but this is not good stuff for you to
.                   be breathing everyday.
.                     CAUSES CANCER IN ANIMALS AND IS SUSPECTED IN HUMANS

.        All solvents are considered to be incompatible with human
.                   tissue so it makes sense that products used in the
.                  "cloud of steam" be solvent and NTA free.

.         Chemeisters® Gumolene® does contain butyl.  Since this and
other brands of spotters are not sprayed in large amounts or used in the
"cloud of steam", they probably do not represent a risk but you have to
decide.  It is our only product that contains this substance.

.          Chemeisters fully supports the "greening" of America.
But as a Carpet Cleaner you are especially exposed to toxins
because you work and breathe in a cloud of vapor all day for
years.  So making stuff "green"
may make it gentle for the
environment
but it can still harm you or shorten your life.

.          Chemeisters was the first carpet cleaning products
manufacturer to refuse to use "butyl", NTA and other harmful
chemicals in our products from the start.  We are still one of the
very few who do not use this stuff.  Do not be fooled by "green"
or "no residue" claims either.  There are no magic chemicals
that can clean greasy carpets and leave zero residues except
industrial solvents and polymer derivatives that we consider
too dangerous for long term use by humans, especially carpet
cleaners.

.          Our goal is to engineer products that use the safest
ingredients for you
and the environment, clean great and flush
easily to eliminate or reduce residues.  So beware when
products say they are non-toxic or "green" and the ingredients
are not listed or more often they are fooling you with "fake"
names.  Make them tell you exactly what's in the stuff and do
your toxicology homework.
